Executive in Residence Eric Gries and Strategic Advisor Bill Miller Bring Decades of Executive Leadership and High-Tech Industry Experience

San Francisco, CA — July 16, 2008 — Granite Ventures, LLC, today announced that Eric Gries and William “Bill” J. Miller have joined the firm. Gries, who has more than two decades of experience in executive leadership and building high-growth technology businesses, will serve as Granite Ventures' executive in residence (EIR). Miller, who will serve as a strategic advisor to Granite Ventures, has been an independent director and consultant to numerous technology companies since 1999.

As EIR, Gries will advise Granite Ventures' portfolio companies on a variety of operational issues, with a focus on software and communications. During his career, Gries has served as CEO, general manager and vice president for companies in networking, application development, systems management, financial services and hardware systems, in both the U.S. and Europe. Prior to joining Granite Ventures, he built and led XACCT, a pioneering network mediation market leader, as its president and CEO. XACCT was acquired by Amdocs in 2004, at which time Eric joined Amdocs' executive team as senior vice president. Earlier in his career, Eric served as general manager of Compuware's Network and Systems Management division, and held product management, marketing, sales and engineering positions at companies such as ACI, Cullinet Software and DEC.

As a strategic advisor, Miller will advise Granite Ventures on management and business strategy issues. Miller currently serves on the boards of directors at a number of companies, including NVIDIA Corp., where he has been a director since 1994; Digimarc Corp.; Glu Mobile Inc.; Overland Storage Inc. and Waters Corp. Before beginning his consulting career, Miller served as chairman, president and CEO at Avid Technology Inc. He held the positions of chairman, CEO and director at Quantum Corp, and served in a number of positions at Control Data Corp. (CDC), including executive vice president and president of Information Services. He was president of Imprimis, the data storage subsidiary of CDC.
